Canelo-Kovalev undercard fighters, flash skills in media workout

LAS VEGAS – Moments after the final press conference of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, the undercard fighters stepped in the spotlight of the MGM Grand Arena for the traditional media workout.

It is now their high-time as all the attention of the media focus on their workout inside the ring at the MGM Grand Arena.

Each boxers were given limited minutes to showcase and perform shadow boxing and sparring with their trainer.

First off was Tristan Kalkreuth, the youngest boxer in the fight card. The 17-year old American will fight the 23-year old Bektemir Melikuziev of Ukraine in the light heavyweight match.

Next was Marlen Esparza. The Olympian has a heated spat with her opponent Seniesa Estrada. They will fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) interim World Female Flyweight title.

Hyped in the ring was Blair “The Flair” Cobbs. The very vocal youngster showed off in the workout showing everyone his excitement and confidence ahead of his bout with Carlos Ortiz.

Estrada, Jorge Fortea are among others who came in the workout.

Last to finish the session were Romero Duno and Ryan Garcia. Duno came first in the delight of the Filipinos in attendance. Duno will fight Garcia as the co-main event of the match.

The famous Garcia on the other hand displayed his version of skills.

The undercards will have their final press conference tomorrow before the official weigh-in on Friday (US time or Saturday PH time).

Former UFC fighter Francis Ngannou accused AJ camp of ‘trickery’ when he suffered devastating knockdowns in the first and second round last March 8, 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The MMA fighter and former UFC heavyweight champion said that AJ camp sabotaged him by letting him go early in the arena.

“We both fought at 3am. What I think, something that’s happened is that they get me to the arena very early. Like my pickup time was 10.30pm to go to the arena. And then when we get to the arena, they tell us that we are scheduled around 1.45am. right?” Ngannou blurted.

He believed that he came exhausted, which resulted in his humiliating defeat.

Texas Department urges Mike Tyson to pass EEG, EKG tests

The 57-year old legend Mike Tyson (50 wins – 6 loss) vs 27-year old YouTuber Jake Paul (9 wins – 1 loss) must undergo major tests before the fight to materialize at AT&T Stadium in Texas Arlington on July 20, 2024.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) urged Tyson to undergo or pass a brain test Electroencephalography (EEG) and Electrocardiogram (EKG) for the heart.

“A person aged 36 or older applying for a contestant’s license must submit a report of favourable physical testing conducted within the previous 12 months, including but not limited to an EEG and an EKG.” TDLR elaborated.

Meanwhile, the American youtuber explained that he picked Tyson because he wants to change the history of boxing. He already fought Floyd Mayweather Jr but he lost.

Victor Wembanyama hits Tim Duncan, O’ Neal records

Victor Wembanyama broke a record of 100 blocks as a rookie last January 8, 2024 in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland, Ohio vs Cavaliers.

Spurs center and power forward Wemby has played 31 games so far and his 4th block on the said game made him the 6th player in NBA history to reach that mark in their first 35 games.

The NBA records show that Wemby (2023-24) hit Tim Duncan at the 6th place as a rookie with the most games played. Shaq had 28 and Alonzo Mourning 18 in 1992-93.

The other NBA players who also reached that 100 blocks record as rookie are Shawn Bradley (1993-94), Alonzo Mourning (1992-93), Shaquille O’Neal (1992-93) Manute Bol (1985-86), Terry Tyler (1978-79).
