Why NBA players hate the play-in tournament?

Published

on

By Ponciano Melo – With the regular season already seeing its end, the fans will soon see the newest proposed NBA play-in tournament to determine the last two tickets going to the postseason.

Here’s how it works:

The 7th and 8th seeded teams, after 72 games, will play one more game to determine who will be the seventh seed, while the loser will play the winner of the 9th and 10th seeded squads.

While this tournament is new, players have been reacting violently to it.

Among them is Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James. He was enraged that he even pointed out whoever came up with the idea should be fired.

Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is also mad of the NBA’s newest idea.

Why?

Simply because the 7th and 8th seeded team worked their best to catch the last trip for the playoffs, but with the application of the play-in tournament, they will be forced to an early win-or-go-home situation.

It\’s a higher risk than when the 8th seeded faces the top squad in a seven-game series where the probability is higher.

On the flipped side, the ninth and the tenth seeded teams will benefit from this. One significant example is the Golden State Warriors, who are having a rough road despite the insane nightly performances from Stephen Curry.

Will this play-in tournament successful? Or will this be the first and last time the league will use it?
