Saul “Canelo” Alvarez disclosed to media that their camp is focused on a close distance fight ahead of its anticipated match against the light heavyweight champion, Sergey Kovalev.
“Right now we are fighting in a short distance,” he said in an interview before their final press conference at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
Although the challenger insisted that the game plan can change on Saturday night (US time) as the fight progresses.
“You don’t know until you’re on the ring. I’m able to do and I know I can do many other things than that. I might apply other things I know aside from that. I still don’t know, it is not until you are there to figure it out,” he added.
Fighting up close is an ideal strategy for Canelo if he plans to destroy Kovalev through body shots as well as to eliminate the height and reach advantages of the Russian.
But trainer Eddy Reynoso firmly believes that Saul Alvarez is a multi-dimensional boxer and it will not be a hindrance if they have to adjust in the fight itself.
The weight has been the talk about their upcoming fight. Canelo will be fighting at the light heavyweight division for the first time in his career and during the press con, he stressed out that he’s comfortable at 175 pounds.
Canelo also confirmed the rumors about him knocking out a heavyweight sparring partner on their training.

“We both fought at 3am. What I think, something that’s happened is that they get me to the arena very early. Like my pickup time was 10.30pm to go to the arena. And then when we get to the arena, they tell us that we are scheduled around 1.45am. right?” Ngannou blurted.
